How to Compile High School Resume Objectives Quickly
Entry level resume objectives are short, powerful statements on the top of your resume, that have the role to inform the hiring officer what is your exact objective, and how you will be of value to their company. An employer usually receives hundreds of resumes for each job opening, and they never read them all: they only skim thorough each resume and this is when they form a first impression about the candidate. A well-written resume objective can grab their attention in those few seconds.
Hiring officers are always unhappy about reading entry level resume objectives without any specific objective. Young people looking for their first job very often write something like “Position with a progressive organization that will fully utilize my talents and skills”. The problem with this objective is that it doesn’t tell anything about what they are really looking for.
When formulating a resume objective, you have to be very clear and concise. Many websites give the advice not to use an objective because it can be too limiting. Don’t listen to that, those who say this are obviously out of touch with the reality of the job market these days. In these economically difficult times those who have problems with formulating specific and directed objectives never have a chance to get an interview.
The most important part of entry level resume objectives is the ability to focus. You should never use generalities like you were using in a broader career mission statement. Instead, you have to rephrase your objective for the specific position you are seeking at entry level. You can limit your objective by industry, job type, and geographical area.
Here are a few samples of entry level resume objectives that are acceptable: “Reporter position with a major news daily. Open to relocation.”, “Electrical engineering position in the silicon chip industry in California.”, “Sales position at a retail company in Portland”, “Staff accountant position in the public accounting field in the San Francisco area.” or “An entry level marketing position with a new media company. Open to relocation.”
The main focus of an entry level resume should be the resume objective. The reason for this is that entry level positions are usually filled with people who have little or no experience in the field. Therefore no hiring officer will expect to find much relevant experience in an entry level resume. So they are looking for somebody who has a specific goal and seems to have a good learning potential.
